Yesterday reports that long-running host Paul ‘Fatty’ Vautin has been booted from NRL Footy Show to be replaced by Erin Molan surfaced, but now the star has hit back at the claims.
Molan confirms she isn’t aware of what role she will play in the revamped sports show after Channel 9 fired veteran presenter Paul “Fatty” Vautin as host.
While The Daily Telegraph reported that the 35-year-old blonde was going replace Vautin, 58, in order to try and win back female viewers who have switched to Fox Sports, she says “For starters this is all news to me,” she told The Fix.
“I haven’t been told anything about what the show will be doing next year, what direction it will be taking or what the role will be.
“I understand there will be changes, but regarding who will be there or who won’t be there, I honestly have absolutely no idea at this stage. I have not been told.”
But Molan isn’t the only host speaking out about the changes to come for 2018’s season of the show.
Darryl “Big Marn” Brohman, who has also been dumped from next year’s panel, revealed that Fatty was heartbroken by the news.
“I know he’s disappointed. I’ve seen the texts; he’s sent me a couple of texts,” the 61-year-old told Macquarie Radio.
“Fatty won’t be there, I won’t be there … I think Erin will possibly host it. She’s very good at what she does,” he said.
“Personally I don’t see that if Fatty’s gone that they can call it The Footy Show. I think he has been The Footy Show. It’s been 24 years that he has hosted it.”
While Fatty won’t be on the show anymore, it has been confirmed that he will stay with Channel 9 in a commentary role.
