It’s that time of year again. Hollywood is ready to kick of the 2017 award season with the 74TH Golden Globes Awards, which thanks to the free flowing champagne on the tables, comedian emcees and a gathering of stars from both film and television has been dubbed the fun awards show!
Here is EVERYTHING you need to know about this year’s event, which takes place at Beverly Hilton Hotel’s Grand Ballroom on January 8 (Jan 9 here in Australia!)
WHO IS HOSTING?
We are hoping to see some epic Lip Sync battles onstage, as late night TV talk show host Jimmy Fallon takes the reins from Ricky Gervais in 2017.
However, he’s calling in some of his A-List friends to help with his opening monologue, which, for the first time will include a filmed video package. “There’s a lot of people who are going to be involved with the opening. I don’t want to name names or spoil anything,” he told WHO. “But Ryan Reynolds … Someone’s going to be in there,” he said, and added with a whisper, “Tina Fey. Uh, but it’s going to be good. Justin Timberlake — and Kit Harington.”
JUST HOW MUCH DO THEY DRINK?
A lot. ET reports guests have access to 1,500 Moet & Chandon minis and 125 cases of the champagne, as well as 500 signature cocktails. And conveniently, the after parties are all hosted in and around the Beverly Hilton Hotel, meaning stars don’t have to walk far to kick on. No wonder celebrity hook-ups are common (think Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom in 2016!)
WHO WILL BE THE BIG WINNER?
Musical romance La La Land (starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling) leads the way with seven nominations and considering that Hollywood loves a film about itself, it looks set to pick up a lot of the awards. However, what also makes the Globes so interesting is its unpredictability so expect to see some unexpected recipients.
WHY ARE THERE THREE “MISS GOLDEN GLOBES?”
Every year, the award show nominates a child of an actor to escorting presenters and winners on and off the stage. This year, that honour is being bestowed on not one, but three; Sylvester Stallone’s’ daughters Sophia, 20, Sistine, 18 and Scarlet, 14.
ALL HAIL THE QUEEN!
She’s won eight awards (and is nominated for her 9th) but now Meryl Streep, the undisputed queen of the silver screen will be honoured as this year’s Cecil B. DeMille Award honouree.
