SEE THE TRAILER BELOW
While the eerie 45-second clip doesn’t give much away, we know that the film will be a direct follow on from the 1989 hit, Ghostbusters II.
Jason Reitman, the son of the original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman, has been secretly working on the film for months and is set to direct and co-write the next chapter. Gil Kenan, who wrote the remake of Poltergeist, will also c0-write the screenplay.
“I’ve always thought of myself as the first Ghostbusters fan, when I was a 6-year-old visiting the set. I wanted to make a movie for all the other fans,” Reitman said.
Despite the familiar music and eerie vibe, Reitman clarified that it will not be a reboot.
“What happened in the ‘80s happened in the ‘80s, and this is set in the present day,” he told Entertainment Weekly.
According to the outlet, the teaser trailer is also supposed to raise questions and confuse its audience. At this point in time, we are unaware who will appear in the film, however many fans are hoping the original cast including Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and Bill Murray will return or make a cameo.
“This is very early, and I want the film to unwrap like a present. We have a lot of wonderful surprises and new characters for the audience to meet,” said Reitman, who was nominated for an Oscar for his film Juno.
Sony Pictures is developing the animated film which is set to drop in 2020.
