REVIEW: ‘Friends From College’ S2

Its first season divided critics, but has the Netflix comedy course corrected?

A year has passed since Ethan (Keegan-Michael Key) and Sam’s (Annie Parisse) affair was exposed – and nothing has been resolved between the six Harvard alumni, many of whom have not spoken in all that time.

They all come back in contact at Max (Fred Savage) and Felix’s (Billy Eichner) engagement party – an event so fraught with tension that you’ll begin to question if there is any comedy to be found in this, well, comedy series.

But this is exactly what the show needed. As relationships are repaired onscreen, Friends from College, which returns for another eight episodes, is also trying to rebuild its reputation after a critically savaged first season.

Panned for its unlikable characters and uninteresting storylines, the series now works a whole lot better with the friends scrambling to make right years of wrongdoings. Worth a second (or first! – it’s easy to pick up) look. (On Netflix now) 3 stars
