The articles in question relayed claims the star acted inappropriately toward a co-star – at a later stage identified as Eryn Jean Norvill – during the Sydney Theatre Company 2015-16 production of King Lear.

Rush vehemently rejected the allegations, and now Sydney’s Federal Court has found he was defamed, describing the articles as ‘recklessly irresponsible’. The star has been awarded $850,000 for aggravated damages – but the figure will escalate considerably once lost earnings have been calculated.

Eryn Jean Norvill said outside court that she ‘never wanted these issues to be dealt with by a court.
