Ex-supermodel Yolanda Hadid (previously Foster) underwent surgery for Lyme’s disease this week. The mother of up-and-coming models Bella Hadid and Gigi Hadid has been suffering from the tick-spread disease since 2013 and decided to have a Transvascular Autonomic Modulation (TVAM) procedure. This is a relatively new surgery that involves placing a catheter in the jugular veins to stimulate nerves. TVAM has been recommended for sufferers of Multiple Sclerosis and other autoimmune disorders in the past.

Yolanda’s children Bella and Anwar (both fathered by Mohamed Hadid) are also infected with Lyme’s. The family publicly campaign heavily for a cure for the disease, and while Yolanda’s decision to undergo what is seen as a radical surgery in the medical community, her supporters are many. Her positive approach to her disease and search for a cure are documented on her Instagram account.

Yolanda’s children have been sharing messages of support for their mother on social media, while Yolanda herself has shared an image of her recovering in a hospital bed.
