Samuel Johnson may have picked up two Logies, including the coveted Gold, but that won’t make him change his mind about retiring.
The actor, who was also named Best Actor for his portrayal as TV icon Ian ‘Molly’ Meldrum in the Molly mini-series, has further confirmed that he won’t be back on Australian screens for a while.
“I’m retiring at this stage. It’s like retiring the year you win the Brownlow,” he said. “I have made a promise to 380k Australians. I swore that I would stick with them until I raise this ten million. We are nearly at five, so I am hoping I can bring it home quick, and get back to work.
“It took us seven years to raise five million, By the same numbers, I will be away for seven more years.”
Johnson aims to raise $10 million in the name of Love Your Sister, a group founded by Samuel and his terminally ill sister Connie.
Connie, who has recently decided to end her treatment, has been battling cancer for almost three decades. She is currently working to put together a row of 5 cent coins in the shape of a love heart, to hopefully form biggest love heart ever in Australia.
