The Good Fight has always been more out there than its parent series, The Good Wife. But this season, the legal drama goes completely off the rails, and not always in a good way. Watch the Season 3 trailer below.

Prime culprit for upsetting the apple cart is new character Roland Blum (Michael Sheen), a maverick lawyer in his element in today’s fake news era when the idea of “truth” is up for debate. Roland, who finds himself paired on a case with Maia (Rose Leslie), is so over-the-top that many of his scenes are virtually unwatchable.

Also on the nose: Kurt’s (Gary Cole) involvement with the Trump boys. Apparently the ballistics expert has been spending time with Eric and Donald Jr, and Diane (Christine Baranski) is not happy. And the first two episodes have these weird animated jingles that explain the legal jargon relevant to the storyline, like an NDA (non-disclosure agreement). It’s all a bit trippy.

It’s not all bad, Lucca is juggling work and single motherhood (with a little help from her baby daddy’s filterless mother), and even angling for a new role in the firm. And any scene featuring Marissa (Sarah Steele) is worth the price of admission alone. Even so, the questionable elements are an irritating distraction for a show that used to be near flawless.
