Cher, born May 20 1946 famously dropped out of high school and left for LA, where she met her future husband Sonny Bono. Together they sang “I Got You Babe” in 1965, launching both of their careers. Cher has since released 25 studio albums, had one of the highest-grossing concert tours worldwide and collaborated with a wide variety of artists. These include Tina Turner and Christina Aguilera.
Cher’s acting career is arguably equally as distinguished. She received an Academy Award in 1988 for her role in Moonstruck.
However, at the height of her success, Cher contracted the Epstein-Barr virus, which resulted in her developing chronic fatigue syndrome. Her career took a turn for the worst, but in true Cher fashion, she bounced back bigger and better. She made one of her numerous music comebacks, releasing a spate of dance tracks in the late 90’s.
As the arguable goddess of pop turns 70, she has a lot to look back on.
