The Disney+ hit How I Met Your Father has definitely grabbed our attention, giving us a new look at an old hit with one of our favourite faces at the helm: Hilary Duff.
The early-2000s actor, singer and all-around It Girl has brought a fresh and diverse perspective to the narrative we know, the one brought to us by How I Met Your Mother, a classic sitcom that ran for nine seasons from 2005-2014.
Hilary stars as Sophie, an unlucky-in-love 29-year-old living out her New York City dreams with a group of friends who are all looking for ‘the one’.
And we’re about to get even more insight into Sophie, with casting for her mother announced today.

Sophie’s mother will be played by none other than Paget Brewster, who is best known as Emily Prentiss on Criminal Minds, which she starred in for nearly 200 episodes.
The character has been set up to be a seemingly unreliable figure in her daughter’s life, who dated one man after the other – leaving Sophie not knowing who her real father is.
Some of Paget’s other roles have been as Frankie Dart in Community, and Sara Kingsley on Grandfathered, where she starred as the mother of Josh Peck’s character. And funnily enough, Josh Peck is also starring on How I Met Your Father, too.
Paget will first appear on the episode that drops on February 8, called The Good Mum, and we couldn’t be more excited to see her pull this off!
The rebooted version of How I Met Your Mother has shown a change to the format that kept us guessing who Ted’s future wife might be for eight seasons.
Instead, this time we’ve been given five individuals who could possibly be the father of Sophie’s future children, which acts to tighten the mystery.
Also, instead of showing her future children respond to the story as it’s told, we see the older version of Sophie, played by Kim Cattrall, telling it.
This leads us to think there might be a spoiler in the child’s name, appearance, or identity, that we’re very curious to know more about.
How I Met Your Father is currently dropping weekly episodes on Disney+, with 10 total expected for the first season.
There’s also 15 seasons of Criminal Minds to be found on there, too!
