The 47-year-old actor, known for his role as Wolverine in the Marvel movies, took to the skies in an F-16 jet to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the iconic fighter-pilot movie Top Gun. Hugh posted a picture of himself and the jet to his Instagram on Thursday.

He captioned the post, “In honor of the 30th Anniversary of the movie #TOPGUN and, of course, the all important #throwbackthursdays … Call sign WOLVERINE”.

To further tribute the 1986 movie’s anniversary, Hugh wore the same Aviator-style sunglasses as Tom Cruise’s character, Lieutenant Pete “Maverick” Mitchell. However, Hugh was not impersonating “Maverick” in this tribute. The jet had some custom detailing that made the day very much his own. Just below the cockpit it reads ‘Hugh “Wolverine” Jackman’.

Hugh has got quite the reputation as an action man. The 6ft 2 star famously injured himself whilst taking a flying fox to join Oprah on stage at the Opera House in Sydney. At the insistence of his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, Hugh now leaves the dangerous stunts to professionals after an incident in 2013 where he almost broke his neck.
