Amethyst Amelia Kelly aka Iggy Azalea was born on 7 June, 1990 and raised in Mullumbimby, NSW. After dropping out of school in year 10, she pursued her dream of becoming a rap star and moved to Miami and then LA
#5 Sheer Talent
Ever since she was a young girl, Iggy loved to dress up and says she was teased for wearing her own homemade outfits. Today, she’s revered for her eclectic style.
“I’ve been a little bit Las Vegas and casino-obsessed. So, I love some trashy glamour… and I think nothing’s trashier or more glamorous than a bit of a sheer number!”
#4 The Skinny on Iggy
Once engaged to Lakers player Nick Young, 28-year-old Iggy has been skinny all her life. “I do absolutely nothing, believe it or not. People will probably hate me for saying that, but I guess I’m one of those lucky horrible people who, no matter what I eat, I don’t gain a pound. My whole family is just like that. They’re all skinny and tall, and I guess, so am I.”
She’s right, we’re not happy about it, but hey, she looks damn good in a bikini …
#3 Iggy Nails It
Known for speaking her mind, (and having public Twitter feuds with everyone from Bhad Bhabie to Nicky Minaj to Eminen, Snoop Dogg and Papa John’s Pizzeria), Iggy is far from a wild child. “People think I’m more wild than I am… I like going to theme parks, play sports or just hanging out with my friends.“
As for those nails, @IggyAzalea tweeted on 27 October, “I’d rather walk around without make-up in public than with a broken nail.”
#2 She’s So Fancy
The ‘Fancy’ singer has openly admitted to having breast implants and a nose job. In March 2015, she told Vogue, “Four months ago, I got bigger boobs! I’d thought about it my entire life.”
But when it comes to her booty, she remains adamant it’s au natural; “I heard sometimes it’s my underpants. I heard it’s implants. All kinds of crazy things. It’s my flesh, it’s my butt,” she told E! Online.
#1 Work For It
According to her mum, Tanya, Iggy “always had the ambition to be the female equivalent of Eminem.”
But there was plenty of hard yakka in her life before she hit the big time as a rapper. In her hit song ‘Work’, Iggy sings ‘How many floors did I have to scrub …’ Back when she was still known as Amethyst, Iggy cleaned hotel rooms so she could get enough cash to move to the US.
Once the 16-year-old moved to Miami she chose the name Iggy (after her childhood dog) and used the name of the street she grew up in – Azalea Street in Mullumbimby – to create her stage name.
So far, it seems to be working for her.
