David Bowie’s widow Iman has paid a moving tribute to the late musician on what would have been their 24th wedding anniversary. The model shared a black-and-white photo of the spotlit pair hugging on a beach, with the caption,”The best thing about me is you.”
The cosmetics entrepreneur included the message, “June 6th. . . 24th wedding anniversary #foreverlove”.
The glamour couple legally wed on June 6, 1992 in Italy, although they had swapped vows two months earlier in a private ceremony in Switzerland, where they were living. The marriage was the second for Bowie and third for Iman.
“They really knew each other because they had come up and traveled in the same circles. They were great together,” their friend Teddy Antolin recalled to WHO in January. “She was a real force and he needed a woman by his side to keep him focused.”
Since Bowie’s death on January 10 in New York after a private battle with cancer, Iman has regularly posted inspirational quotes and tributes to her late husband, often referencing her grief. A month after he died, she showcased a Bowie motif Gucci jumper in his honour.
The couple welcomed their daughter Alexandria Jones in 2000, and also co-parented two children from their previous relationships.
The secret to their long marriage? “We both understand the difference between the person and the persona,” Iman told Oprah before the musician’s passing. “When we are home we are just Iman and David. We’re not anybody else.”
