Christmas came early this year for James Marsden.
The Westworld actor appeared on The Ellen Degeneres Show earlier this week and revealed he had a “massive” crush on Oscar winner Dame Helen Mirren.
“I just love her, I do,” he said. “I’ve had a massive crush on her for years.”
Fortunately for him, Mirren was also a guest on the day time talk show. And while Marsden, 43, admitted he’d held back from introducing himself backstage, he did share with the viewers that he’d once had an embarrassing encounter with the British actor.
“I’m glad I’m waiting to be on national television to admit this. but I was on a flight with her once to Rome. And when I got off the flight, I followed her to baggage claim and in a very voyeuristic, creepy way I took a photo of her while she was walking,” he confessed to 58-year-old Ellen DeGeneres. “Very creepy! I was avoiding seeing her backstage because I didn’t want her to know I was stalking her in Rome in an international airport.”
DeGeneres then invited 71-year-old Mirren on stage to meet him, and much to Marsden’s surprise, she greeted her admirer with a kiss on the lips. The pair then proceeded to pose for few pictures together, including one from behind to mimic the infamous airport shot that Mirren revealed her husband, film director Taylor Hackford, was also snapped in.
“You are so handsome, oh my God,” Mirren gushed as she walked off stage, causing Marsden to fall to his knees in disbelief.
“I just had to give her my digits right now,” he joked, to which DeGeneres exclaimed, “Wow, you’re trying to break up her marriage.”
“I know,” the 27 Dresses star replied, “You get one shot in life! That was my one shot. Thank you, what a nice Christmas gift that was.”
