Jessica Marais may be a successful actress, but the mother of one admits to indulging in a few shortcuts when it comes to parenting.
When the 31-year-old actress was asked by Nova FM’s Fitzy and Wippa if she considered her parenting style to “lazy”, Marais revealed that she opts to spend minimum amount of time on her maintenance – even admitting to washing her hair once a week. “Sometimes not washing my hair for a week – so much to the point then when I actually have to interact with someone else, like a grown-up, I put the effort in,” admits Marais.
The radio hosts quizzed the actress on their Aug. 23 morning show and she openly discussed the reality of the hashtag #lazymum, which is currently trending on social media.
“Definitely, I’m guilty of not getting dressed, staying in pyjamas,” she told the radio announcers. “If it’s a rainy day outside and we’re doing craft inside – it’s definitely a pyjama day.”
“She [a friend] remarks on how great I look just because I look normal,” she added. “I’ve actually got my hair out and I look like a human being. Or I’ll put a facemask on and walk around with it on all day. But lazy mum stuff, I shove toys under the bed before someone comes over – that’s really lazy.”
The actress has had an eventful year, having won the Silver Logie Award for Best Actress in Love Child.
Last year she and her fiancé James Stewart announced their split – the former couple share a four-year-old daughter called Scout.
