Beloved Aussie singer, Jessica Mauboy, has given a bit of insight into her upcoming nuptials, after enjoying a long engagement with her fiancé, Themeli Magripilis.
Speaking on Sunrise today, Jess revealed she’d finally chosen a location for her wedding.
“Honestly I don’t have an actual set date. I’m just trying to suss out who’s in town – all the family particularly, obviously now everyone wants to travel,” she said.
“I’m sure it will be a Darwin big family fest, because all my mob is up that way,” she shared.
“It’ll be probably the sunset and the beach, you know.”
Jess and Themeli have been engaged for nearly three years now, with Themeli having popped the question in 2019.
Obviously, COVID-19 restrictions saw a lot of wedding delays, but Jess’s career commitments have also been time-consuming.
“I have no updates,” she told The Project last year.
“When you know, you’ll know. I feel like this music is always taking over when I’m getting my personal life together,” she explained. Although, this seems to be no problem for Themeli.
“He’s been so completely patient but he also loves seeing the joy and gets a kick out of me doing what I love to do,” Jess explained.
The Sydney-based couple have been together for more than a decade total, having first met in a Darwin nightclub when Jess was just 18.
“I’m the one who made the move and ended up getting his number from a really good friend,” The Voice coach said of the beginning of their relationship.
“I texted and said ‘I’d really like this to work, how about you?’ and I didn’t think I would do anything in my life like that,” she revealed.
Her career was just beginning at the time, so the pair did long distance for the first seven years of their relationship – showing intense dedication to each other.
Jess realised he was ‘the one’ when she travelled to Greece with Themeli to meet his extended family.
“Out of all the moments we’ve had together it was a realisation that yes, I am going to be with him for the rest of my life, whether or not I have the ring,” she said in 2016.
“I know how deeply amazing he is, how he is with my family, and they are with him. And he’s so hot.”
They now live together with their dog, Leo, who entertained them throughout the various lockdowns of 2020 and 2021.
