The storm surrounding Studio 10 panellists Kerri-Anne Kennerley and Yumi Stynes’ Invasion Day argument continues to rage on.
Following the media star’s bitter argument last month – in which Yumi branded Kerri-Anne ‘racist’ for claiming Invasion Day protesters should be less concerned with ‘changing the date’ and instead focus on social issues affecting remote Aboriginal communities, such as sexual assault and suicide – fellow panellist Joe Hildebrand has revealed what happened when the cameras stopped rolling.
‘The conversation did not continue, there was a lot of silence. But then we got to the end of the show…,’ Joe told Nova FM’s Fitzy & Wippa during an interview on February 5.
‘[A producer said], “Alright everybody, so I just want to let you know, I know it’s an important issue for a lot of people and people are really passionate about it but we’re all good friends on the show.”
‘”And Kerri and Yumi are great friends and everyone really likes each other”. And everyone goes, “Yes”, and then Kerri-Anne goes, “Except you called me a racist!”‘
The latest development in the saga comes after New Idea revealed that 65-year-old Kerri-Anne is considering quitting network Ten following the debacle.
“KAK is not happy with Ten,” spills our well-placed insider. “She couldn’t believe they had Yumi on to get a headline, as she is famous for it. After the stoush, she told friends ‘if the network doesn’t apologise, I am walking’,” a source revealed.
“She also wasn’t happy she had to organise her own publicity to help sort out the situation. She had to call on pals Ben Fordham and Kyle and Jackie O so the public could hear her side of the story.”
