The third film in the John Wick series, Chapter 3 – Parabellum, is in cinemas now, picking up the non-stop action immediately where Chapter 2 ended. Watch the trailer below.
With a $14 million (and rising) bounty on his head – a result of his actions in Chapter 2 – the titular assassin (Keanu Reeves) spends the majority of this threequel fending off one attempt after another on his life.
In between the relentless orgies of intricately choreographed violence, there is precious little time for John to interact with the big-name stars lined up for this instalment – a list that includes Halle Berry as Sofia, a fellow assassin who John once helped, and Anjelica Huston as the Director, whose network John was once part of. Both women owe John a favour, which he comes to collect in his time of dire need.
The film pauses for breath every now and then for scenes featuring Billions’ Asia Kate Dillon, who joins the franchise as an Adjudicator sent by the High Table to enact punishment on the Bowery King (Laurence Fishburne) and Winston (Ian McShane) for aiding John.
Otherwise, Chapter 3 is a deluge of fight scenes that, while often quite inventive (in particular, one horseback sequence), all become a blur. (Out now) 3.5 stars
