Jude Law has been cast as a young Dumbledore in the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequel .
Law, 44, will play Dumbledore decades before he became the Headmaster at Hogwarts, portrayed in the Harry Potter series.
Director David Yates applauded the two-time Academy Award nominee’s past work.
“Jude Law is a phenomenally talented actor whose work I have long admired, and I’m looking forward to finally having the opportunity to work with him,” he said in a statement.
“I know he will brilliantly capture all the unexpected facets of Albus Dumbledore as J.K. Rowling reveals this very different time in his life.”

Actor Richard Harris portrayed Dumbledore in the first two Harry Potter films, with Michael Gambon taking on the role after Harris’ death in 2002.
