In the season premiere of Channel 9’s This Time Next Year, engaged couple Darren and Jennifer have blown host Karl Stefanovic away with their transformation.
The couple had a goal of losing weight for their wedding in 12 months from her first appearance on the reality show, which presents the audience with the one year life change in just one episode.
“We’ve gone through life as the bigger couple … and I don’t want to be that fat bride”, Jennifer told Stefanovic.
Her fiance Darren said: “I love her the way she is, but by the same token I’m sick of being the fat fella … no more fat fumbly sex”.
Jennifer aimed to shed 50 kilograms, whilst Darren wanted to go from 138.8 kilograms down to 95.
The couple, both 39, underwent gastric bypass surgery and followed a new diet and exercise plan.
When they made their final appearance on the show, Stefanovic quipped that the NSW pair were “unrecognisable … in the best possible way”.
Darren surpassed his goal weight, losing 61 kilograms to get down to 77.8. Jennifer got down to 73.9.
“We haven’t been this weight since we were in year 7,” she told Stefanovic.
The couple have since tied the knot.
