Kasey Chambers has revealed that at age 30, she struggled with anorexia and bulimia between 2006-2007.
The singer whose career took off in the mid-2000s, broke the news on Mia Freedman’s No Filter podcast, saying “I just didn’t feel myself and I knew that something wasn’t right.”
She admitted at her lowest point she weighed in at 44 kilos.
“I wouldn’t look in the mirror and see someone really fat,’ Kasey revealed. “It wasn’t an image thing for me… It was more about the control thing.”
Chambers, now 40, said she eventually sought help for her illness and claims her eating disorder was triggered by not openly acknowledging the stress and negativity in her life at that stage.
The Aria-award winner added, “I think a lot of that actually was me not allowing myself to kind of break down every now and then.'”
Chambers is happier at this stage. The star split from husband Shane Nicholson in 2013, whom she shares two children with Arlo, now 9, and Poet, who is 5. She also has an older child, Talon, from a previous relationship.
