You’d be forgiven for thinking Khloe Kardashian ignoring Tristan Thompson during their daughter True’s first birthday party was the most awkward moment we’ve seen to date on Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

Sure, at the time we were all cringing, but nothing compares to Khloe’s response to the cheating basketball player saying “I love you”.

In the most recent episode of their hit reality series, we saw the former couple— who split after Tristan was caught kissing Kylie Jenner’s best friend, Jordyn Woods— chat over FaceTime while her best friends Malika Haqq and Khadijah Haqq McCray watched on. As Khloe was saying goodnight and telling her daughter she loves her, Tristan decided it was the perfect opportunity to say the same thing to his ex-girlfriend.

“Alright, love you,” he said before the Good American founder literally responded with, “bye… thank you!”

Naturally, Malika drew attention to the cringe-worthy moment, with Khloe admitting she too was taken aback by his rogue comment.

“I don’t know what to say. I just think now, I’ve already seen how this ride goes and I don’t enjoy it. So it’s like why would I want to do it for the third time? Right now, the most I can handle is a co-parenting relationship… Tristan wants more than that,” she said.

As we know, Khloe— who recently shaded Tristan on Instagram, calling him “toxic”— has maintained she will never rekindle her romance with the NBA player. But that hasn’t stopped him from trying! Recently he upped the ante on his quest to win her over, with a source close to Koko revealing their plans to spend the holiday season together for the sake of their daughter has already muddied the waters.

Yep, Tristan is convinced this is his chance to shoot his shot!

“It’s hard not to admire Khloe,” an insider told PEOPLE of Tristan’s mindset. “She decided that she was going to be in a good place with Tristan, because of True and she really is. She refuses to be bitter and dwell on the past.”

The source continued: “Tristan still tries to date her, but she doesn’t seem interested. She seems very happy the way things are. She loves just being a mum and focusing on work.”

As we know, he’s is still very much in love with his ex. He recently relocated to move closer to Khloe’s Calabasas mansion, tried to kiss her at their daughter’s birthday party, left a bunch of cute messages on her Instagram photos, and even gifted her with a huge diamond ring. However, in spite of all his efforts, Khloe’s done with the drama, revealing on Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast that she has little interest in dating anyone right now.

“I haven’t jumped into dating,” she said during the recording in November. “I don’t care to date right now. I’m not in a rush for it. I feel so good in my life and I don’t really need much else. So, something that I’m focusing on is just making sure that I process everything.”

“I think, especially in my family, we’re good at moving on. We have very big forgiving hearts. We just move on, but we don’t really talk about things that happened, and I don’t really know if that’s healthy or not.”

During the interview, she also opened up about co-parenting with Tristan, admitting she looks to her mum, Kris Jenner, for advice.

“Oh, it’s hard. It’s not easy for me,” she dished. “You know, it would be easier for me to keep my daughter away…but he never hurt True. Him and I have our own relationship and then Tristan and True have theirs, and I will never come in between that. I don’t believe in that.”

As for where she stands with Tristan now, Khloe said she’s chosen to forgive him for the sake of bettering her family.

I think we all make mistakes, we’re humans. But it’s only going to hurt me if I’m holding on to this anger and playing this victim role. I don’t believe in being a victim. I just feel like we’re all so quick to exile people, and it’s just so heavy to me.”

“I want to show my daughter it’s OK and it’s a beautiful thing to also forgive her dad. He’s a great person. Maybe him and I weren’t compatible in that way, but that’s OK.”
