Kim Kardashian has made a whole lot of money based on her selfie-taking skills, but it appears it’s landed the star and her company into some legal trouble.
According to TMZ, The Keeping Up With The Kardashian‘s star’s use and promotion of an illuminated smartphone case has been copied by a man who originally invented it, and he says he has receipts to prove it, so much so he’s gone ahead and attemted to sue Kardashian for US$100 million.
Kardashian’s company which trades under Kimsaprincess, Inc. was notified about the lawsuit on Monday July 31 – by the original inventor Hooshmand Harooni. He says he received patent back in 2013 for an “integrated lighting accessory and case for a mobile phone device.” Which coincidentally sounds a lot like the LuMee case which Kardashian has made viral in a number of photos posted on her social media.
Harooni licensed his creation to a company called Snaplight, which is now getting buried in sales. Snaplight and Harooni say LuMee stole their technology, and made it difficult by teaming up with a famous influencer like Kim.
Within the court documents, Snaplight reveals Kardashian is receiving a portion of LuMee’s sizable profits.
The company has requested $100 million to cover its lost profits.
