As much as she relished being surrounded by her “adorable” nieces and nephews at Christmas time, Laura Csortan still felt there was something missing. “Every year I longed and craved for my own child, but it never worked out,” she tells WHO exclusively. That changed for Christmas 2016 when she cradled he newborn baby girl, Layla Rose, in her arms.
Born on Nov.17 via emergency Caesarean, Layla weighed 3.6kg and measured 55cm. Csortan, 40, has made the decision to raise Layla on her own; she found out she was pregnant after splitting with the father (who she refuses to name.) Six weeks in, it’s hard work, but she’s not complaining. “Several years ago I would never have thought I would be a single mother. But things don’t often work out the way you think they will,” she reflects. “So you’ve just got to go with the flow and do the best you can.”
The hardest part she says is the isolations at night. “I can deal with the lack of sleep and the sore boobs, but the loneliness is the hardest,” she says. “But on the flip side, and what far outweighs that is the love you will feel for this little human. Now I have something to love and worry about for the rest of my life. Already I would give me life for hers. That happens overnight. A flick of the switch and then you’re a mum!”
