It was the iconic noughties movie that brought us the ever-catchy tune Perfect Day, countless pink outfits, cult-worthy quotes and the reminder that girls not only can do anything they put their mind to – but they can also do it while looking fabulous.
Legally Blonde was an immediate hit with audiences, grossing $141 million worldwide following its premiere in 2001 and mesmerizing audiences to this day, almost 25 years later.
And now, we’re getting more Elle Woods.
An Elle Woods return in 2024 was not what we were expecting, but the one and only Miss Reese Witherspoon has taken to Instagram to share the exciting announcement that the legendary movie is getting adapted into a new spinoff television series.
With Reese and her production company Hello Sunshine on board, the project is in good hands – and at the recent Amazon Upfront Presentation, we learnt a few more details about what’s in store for audiences.
What is the Legally Blonde TV show about?
At this stage, we don’t know too many details, but Reese Witherspoon has confirmed the show, aptly titled Elle, will be an origin story of Elle Woods as a 1990s high schooler.
According to Deadline, the new prequel series is in development at Amazon MGM Studios and is being written by Gossip Girl developers/executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage.
The Hello Sunshine Instagram account’s announcement also revealed a few small details, explaining they were “bringing Legally Blonde back to your screens in a spinoff TV series inspired by the films.”
Is Reese Witherspoon going to be in it?
Fingers crossed! Even though Reese is working on the project behind the scenes, we’re not sure if she’ll be appearing in the show – especially since it will be a prequel. However, that hasn’t stopped fans from hoping the new project will include a visit from future Elle in the form of Reese Witherspoon.
Reese who will be an executive producer alongside Josh and Stephanie, did reprise her iconic role at the Amazon Upfront Presentation in May 2024, taking to the stage in her old costume.
Where to watch the Legally Blonde TV show
At this stage, the project has only just been announced and is currently in development, which means we are probably a while off from the actual premiere date.
We’ll keep you updated if we learn any more details, but in the meantime why not re-watch the original two films?
