Liam Hemsworth is the toast of Tinseltown. He might be out of the shadows of his older brother Chris, but there’s one shadow he can’t quite seem to shake—that of former fiancée Miley Cyrus.
The pair became engaged when he was 20, meeting on the set of Nicholas Sparks’s The Last Song, but their relationship ended with a bitter split in 2013, and Miley released the power ballad “Wrecking Ball”, ostensibly about a relationship that had soured.
Rumours have swirled since early this year that the couple is “back on,” something Liam didn’t deny in a recent interview with GQ.
“People will figure it out, they already have… They’re not dumb.”
The pair was spotted together at a Byron Bay music festival in January and again in the coastal NSW town in April.
Adding fuel to the fire, Miley wore a sizeable engagement ring to the Knicks basketball game against the Cleveland Cavaliers in March. The pop star has recently been spending time with Liam’s sister-in-law, Spanish actress Elsa Pataky, both in Byron Bay and also in Los Angeles.
As of March this year, Liam and Miley are also neighbours in Malibu. Miley followed Liam into the area, purchasing a $3.2 million property.
Reflecting on the relationship with Miley, Liam said, “I guess when I feel something, then I just feel it and I go for it.
“I make my decisions about what’s going to make me happy, what I think is right and what I want to do—and I don’t worry too much outside of that.”
Miley’s father, Billy Ray Cyrus, also confirmed in a recent interview with E! that she and Liam are very happy, but wouldn’t say if a wedding was likely any time soon.
“Miley and I, we always had this slogan—‘If you ain’t happy, it ain’t working,’” Cyrus said. “Just seeing these—I still call them kids—these two kids happy, that’s all that matters.”
