Libby Trickett opens up about her miscarriage

Before welcoming daughter Poppy, Olympic gold medalist Libby Tricket suffered a miscarriage, which came as a shock to the swimmer.

“It was a very early miscarriage but you still feel sadness,” Trickett, 32, said during a Mamamia podcast.

“We saw that heartbeat and I immediately starting fantasising and imagining what they might become. I didn’t know if it was a boy or a girl. I didn’t know whether they would have blonde hair or be a brunette like Poppy is. But you start to dream and to imagine what this person, this little being, might become,” she explained.

“I think that really shocked me, how attached I became.” However, after being able to process everything, Trickett says she was grateful for what happened.

“Because I am so grateful that I have Poppy now and for any future babies that we might have all we want is a healthy, happy baby.

“So many women go through it and we feel like it’s our fault and we feel like it’s our bodies failing on some level but in reality it’s not. That little being just wasn’t meant to be for some reason,” she said
