A few years ago, Lindy Klim’s life looked very different. In 2016, she had just divorced Olympic swimmer Michael Klim, with whom she shares three children, Stella, 13, Rocco, 11, and Frankie, 8.

Two years later, in August 2018, she remarried after falling in love with British property developer Adam Ellis and having welcomed daughter Goldie with him in December 2017.

Now, Klim says her ex-husband and her current spouse have a solid friendship – in fact, they are best mates. The model and socialite, 42, talks to WHO about her very modern family.

How is married and family life going?

Yeah, good. I’m always trying to find that balance with work and travel. But Adam’s just so amazing. The relationship he has with my children is just exceptional. And I think having Goldie really tied our family together – we’re a new family unit, which is really nice. We spend a lot of time with Michael as well, so they’ve become quite good friends. [Adam and Michael] are often doing things together with the kids. I’ve been away working this week and they have been kind of like two men and 400babies, so they support one another, which is actually really great. I feel lucky in that sense that they’ve been able to work all of that out and have the kids and the family unit, being as big as it is. It’s more hands-on deck – it takes a village to raise a child.

You’ve been a major presence at the Spring Racing Carnival for a few years now. Are you looking forward to this year’s season?

Derby Day is always a fantastic day. But then I’m really looking forward to going to Stakes Day with my children. Especially my daughter Stella, who is almost 14, so that’s right up her alley. She’s looking forward to it more than any of them!

Have you gone shopping for outfits?

We have a strong idea of what she wants to wear. She’s always saving things on Pinterest and counting down for it, but we’ll find something. It’s always kind of difficult, especially for her age group – we want to make sure she still looks 14 and not like a 21-year-old. So that’s my challenge.

Are all your children attending Stakes Day?

We’re all going to go! I’m not sure how Goldie is going to go because she’s only almost 2. So she’s at that ‘terrible twos’ stage. I think Stella and I are going to be doing the judging for Fashions on the Field, which should be fun. And Stella will love that. Rocco just loves the entertainment and being with Adam, watching the horses. Frankie is such a girly girl so she’ll no doubt wear a tutu of some kind. I’m not sure how long Goldie will last. I’m hoping she’s going to be on her best behaviour.

Whether you’re a model or a normal punter, getting dressed up for the races is always fun, right?

That’s right. And that’s why I’ve always loved it. I’ve been a big fan of Spring Racing, especially at Flemington, for that reason. My first time I went with Michael, I think I was the face of Spring Racing four months into my pregnancy. I was pregnant with Stella so we’re talking 14 years ago. And that was my first introduction. It was really nice to see everybody get dressed up and really put a lot of effort into itit’s not that often people go all out.

Spring Racing comes in for a fair bit of criticism relating to the treatment of horses. What’s your take on it?

Everybody has their own opinion. I don’t promote animal cruelty or anything like that, but I do think these animals are very well looked after and very well cared for. I don’t want to get into it too much because we’re not very political. Obviously people have their own opinions and they’re allowed to have their own opinions. So, I’m not going to stop anyone from having their own beliefs or whatever. They can protest, just as long nobody throws paint on me then that’s a problem.
