She may have left Married At First Sight but Cheryl Maitland is still dealing with controversial relationships as her new man, Dean Gibbs’ violent past has been revealed.

The Daily Mail have reported that Cheryl’s 30-year-old boyfriend is a disgraced ex-cop who was convicted for drug trafficking.

Gibbs pleaded guilty to five drug-related charges in 2014 including trafficking, cocaine use and possession of steroids and ecstasy.

He was handed a one-year suspended jail sentence in the Melbourne Magistrates Court.

The former constable reportedly became involved in drugs when his salary was too low to cover the cost of his cocaine addiction.

He has also been linked to a bikie gang as he was first charged with drug related offences when he became caught up in a Victorian Police sting on the Comanchero gang back in 2012.

Following a phone tap, police searched Gibbs’ home to find half-an-ounce of cocaine, two ecstasy tablets, ammunition, dealing bags and scales.

Dean faced more than 15 years in jail but pleaded guilty to the trafficking and possession charges.

He then resigned from the police force and became a plumber.

Gibbs’ mother told the Daily Mail that he has worked hard to make up for his past mistakes.

“That is all in the past… he’s moved on from all of that,” she said.

“He has worked very hard to build a new life, he’s got a successful plumbing business and he’s very proud of that,” she said.
