There aren’t many Married At First Sight contestants who come back for a second shot at love but one of the most memorable was Lizzie Sobinoff, who eventually found her happily ever after with partner Seb Guilhaus in 2020.

But now, the two-time MAFS bride has shared a rare insight into her life before reality TV in a candid Instagram post.

“Yes, basically every one of you following me knows me from Australian MAFS,” she began.

“You know the story of me being body shamed, cheated on etc. A lot of the comments I receive or dms are weight related. When I walk outside my door, I meet so many beautiful people but without fail you all find it necessary to mention my weight.”

She added: “I went back on MAFS last year and met a very special person @seb.guilhaus. I’m just going to put a reminder out there…..”

Lizzie then went on to share details of her life, including the fact that she lived on a disability pension for 10 years and was “heavily medicated.”

“I’m Lizzie Sobinoff, not only did I participate in a show. I’m an actual person,” she wrote.

“6 months prior to going on the show I was on a disability pension for a decade. I was heavily medicated and frankly it was a living hell. I decided to rehabilitate myself in the last few years of being on the disability pension, adapting myself to the ‘real’ world. Very slowly. Drs couldn’t believe I came off this medication alive.”

She continued: “I decided to go back to work moving from Newcastle to Sydney and I applied as a casual at a jewellery store and on the third day was offered a managers position because I was that enthusiastic and very good at what I did. Within a few months I brought that store up in the financial year and was poached to work at another store because people had heard throughout the grapevine how good I was. I’m damn proud of this.”

“Managing my body and working I put on weight because I know a high carb diet worked for me at that point (I was never overweight and still in a healthy weight range). I was asked to go on MAFS and I did.”

“That’s how you know me….This had been my life. Disability pension for a decade, work for 6 months then MAFS (twice).”

Lizzie finished her post with a tribute to her partner Seb. To this date, the couple are the last-standing match from the 2020 season of the show.

“I’m still together with @seb.guilhaus and I have learnt so much about myself,” she revealed.

“He is the first male I have EVER lived with and with everything that goes on with me, and myself adapting to ‘real’ life I just want to thank him. Still cannot believe how we met. Sometimes forget how we met!

“Basically stop glorifying a f***ing ‘transformation’ that is assumed to be from the result of a loser. Let’s start applauding doing well at life and learning and growing and taking time to look after yourself and allowing beautiful people into your life.”

The post was met with many kind and congratulatory messages from Lizzie’s followers.

One fan wrote: “I think you are incredibly awesome!! It is so hard having an invisible disability, no one takes it seriously or realises the severity of it. I also suffer from an invisible disability yet people expect me to perform as well as perfectly fit (mentally and physically) people. There needs to be more awareness about this! Much love, Liz, and to everyone who suffers from disability whether it be visible or invisible.”

Lizzie’s former MAFS co-stars also applauded her for sharing such a personal story.

In October, the couple celebrated their first anniversary with Lizzie sharing a sweet post dedicated to her man.

“All the hurdles. The patience. The differences. A yr later and you are still my world,” she sweetly captioned a glamorous photo shoot snap of the couple.

To make matters even more adorable, Seb commented on the post: “What a fantastic year.”
