Earlier this week, Mishel Karen landed herself in hot water when she told her Instagram followers she was visiting her local hair salon for a colour and cut.

Although they’re not on the list of non-essential services which have been forced to shut down, many furious MAFS fans deemed her decision to step outside “unnecessary”, claiming fame shouldn’t make her exempt from following the strict guidelines the government has enforced.
“How do you get to go to the hairdresser when nobody else can?” one angry Instagram user asked Mishel, who suffered an ill-fated marriage to Steve Burley on the latest season of the dating experiment.
“Are MAFS folks immune to COVID-19? Seems everyone is out trying to sell something and ignoring spreading this,” another added.
Since sparking outrage, the Brisbane based school teacher has defended her actions, telling Daily Mail Australia she needed to boost her self confidence and wanted to support a local business in the process.
“I started getting questioned on my post for going to the hairdresser. Then I got smashed in with hate in my inbox,” the 48-year-old revealed.
“I really followed our rules and restrictions but is this a thing that people are hating [on] at the moment? It is strange times and it is hard to know who or what to support without breaking rules.”
She continued: “My intention was to feel better about iso, [while] also supporting small local businesses that are really struggling. I think it is important to support small and local businesses in any way we can so they can support their families,” she said.
Drama aside, Mishel has been focused on bettering herself since filming wrapped, pledging to lose the 13 kilos she gained while filming the dating experiment.
“It is quite obvious that during filming MAFS I gained a bit of extra ‘Mishel’ to love. An extra 13kgs of MESH,” Mishel captioned an Instagram post showing before and after photos that were taken six months apart.
“I am now back to my pregnancy weight just before I gave birth to my beautiful daughter Eva. Not a weight I expected to be after ‘getting married’ on MAFS or turning 50!
“Even though I believe Curves are Cool! I just don’t feel as healthy and fit as I did before I entered the experiment, so… It is my challenge to fit back into my ‘Hen’s Night’ little black Bec and Bridge dress. I hope that you share my journey with me,” she concluded.
She’s also been open about experimenting with botox, recently confirming she decided to try anti-wrinkle treatments after spending time around her younger MAFS co-stars.
“Yes, I did have botox as soon as I left filming for MAFS,” she revealed on Instagram. “Being surrounded by so many naturally attractive women that are younger and had botox and fillers… I did get some and I think I will get a bit more. I really like how it opened my eyes and I look fresher. It was a very personal decision, but I give it a huge tick.”
The mother of two also admitted to having her eyebrows, eyeliner and lip colour tattooed on.
“This is my brief overview with a picture of me with no filter, no makeup. Of course, I have my insecurities about how I look without makeup! I see my pigmentations on my cheeks, dark circles under my eyes. I think it is important to show you that we don’t just wake up perfect and we all have insecurities about how we look,” she concluded.
