Unfortunately, the reaction to his buff new look was mixed, with some claiming the tradie looked “better” before he overhauled his fitness regime and beefed up.

The former Married At First Sight star has since addressed the backlash over his changing look, telling Daily Mail Australia he’s trying to focus on bettering himself and remaining positive.

“I haven’t read or seen the comments but I’m enjoying helping others with motivation and spreading positive vibes on socials and through messages,” the newly buff star told the outlet.

“I’m very happy with my work and health and grateful especially in the times we are in! Especially compared to the rest of the world so trying to make it a positive situation and keep being the best version of me I can be for myself and for others.

“I just love being healthy and active, so if it helps others get motivated in these times, even better! But doing it for me as it’s what I enjoy.”

While quarantining, Sam has been on a mission to get into shape, telling the outlet training is the only activity that has helped him beat the “isolation blues”.

“I’m training two times a day. I have bought lots, so now I have my own gym set up at home, and other days I improvise outdoors. I’ll reach [my goal] in a few months, it’s just for myself. I love it, so I’m just enjoying the process.”

After a six-month break from the spotlight, Sam returned to Instagram last month, just in time for returning bride Elizabeth’s MAFS 2020 debut.  A coincidence? I think not.

Discussing the intruder’s highly anticipated return to the series, Sam—who infamously cheated on her with last year’s villain, Ines Basic— sarcastically commended her for trying her hand at love again while subtly hinting she’s well aware the series is “fake”.

“Good on her if that’s what she wants to do to find love. Everyone that’s been in the experiment [before] knows how set up [it is], and what goes on behind the scenes. I wouldn’t do it again,” he said when asked during an Instagram live what he thought of the Sydney retail manager’s return.

“Would I meet up with Lizzie and hang out? No, I wouldn’t. I don’t think we share the same interests. There are things that happened that were in her control after the show that she didn’t have to do or comment on, which she did.”

While discussing her second reality stint, Sam also opened up about his ex-wife’s weight loss, praising her for overhauling her diet.

In case you’ve forgotten, he fat-shamed Lizzie on their wedding day, saying he’d “never dated anyone as big” as her.

“Health and fitness is huge, good on Lizzie for going down that path and living a healthy lifestyle. It’d benefit anyone! It’ll affect your work life, sex life and mental state. Being healthy is huge on your body,” he said.
