MAFS spin-off Talking Married set to return after axing

This time around, the contestants will have time to prepare their answers.

Married At First Sight fans were up in arms when Nine Network axed the show’s overly juicy spin-off series, Talking Married in September 2019.

However, with the MAFS premiere right around the corner (hello Feb, 2), rumours are swirling the show is set to return to our screens! According to TV Blackbox, Talking Married will be pre-recorded and split into four weekly videos which will air on 9now, as opposed to being broadcast on 9Life.

Their decision to pre-tape the show as opposed to airing it live on 9Life means even this year’s most controversial contestants will have time to prepare their responses and won’t be caught off guard by rogue questions from viewers.

“This change will overcome Nine’s main problems of coaching talent on how to deal with tricky questions and will allow the network to cut out any content that may contribute to potential issues for the contestants,” the outlet claimed.

Channel Nine presenter Shelly Horton will reportedly return and host the show alone this year, as Jayne Azzopardi is currently on maternity leave.

As we know, the show was canned last year after whispers grew that the unruly series was harming contestants’ mental health.

“All reality TV pushes limits but I am concerned they are going one step too far and it is going to all collapse and that’s not good for the industry,” a well-placed television executive told the Daily Telegraph after the news broke.

“We have never seen conduct like this on Australian television before.”

Talking Married host Shelly echoed a similar sentiment, claiming last year that she too was concerned for the contestants who were struggling to cope during the lengthy segments.

“I’m sad to see Talking Married axed but I got to co-host two seasons,” she began. “Live TV can be brutal for all involved. oh well, you don’t go into the media for stability. Not my first rodeo.”
