Former Married At First Sight bride Zoe Hendrix grew up never knowing her birth family.
But despite being in lockdown, the mum-of-one has reconnected with her biological relatives and shared an emotional post about their e-reunion.
Alongside a picture of herself on a video chat with her mother’s sister, Zoe wrote: “Do you believe in MIRACLES!!?? Since my last post on Mother’s Day, a random DM and a Facebook search ensued about my adoption story.”
The MAFS bride went on to say that the “incredible sequence of events” feels unreal and she compared it to “a scene out of a movie, filled with twists and turns,” that included conversations across three continents.
Zoe went on to say that via social media platform Facebook, a selection of helpful people helped her find her biological family in three days.
“Our mum’s family who knew us as small babies, and some who were there as we were born. Most who know live in Europe and in the USA,” she wrote.
“It took almost 25 years of searching, and I have dreamed of this day for so bloody long!! I promised my mum I would find her, and I couldn’t rest until I did.”
“Here I am in this pic as my Aunty tells me about my mother. Her sister. We laughed and we cried,” Zoe continued.
“My beautiful, wise, incredibly resilient mother who spoke of her twins until her last breath. Who hoped and prayed that we would be safe and happy, how proud she would be.”
The mum-of-one finished her post with the poignnat observation: “Life is suffering and survival, but above all of that, it is everlasting love!!”
At just five-years-old, Zoe and her twin brother Micael were adopted by a Tasmanian couple in 1995 from at Ethiopian orphanage.
Their biological mother left Zoe and Micael at the orphanage after a war left her worried for their safety.
“She told us to go out there and be brave and maybe one day we’d be able to find her again,” Zoe told Daily Mail Australia.
“As a child in the orphanage there wasn’t much to eat, we shared one pair of shoes – pretty much what you see in the World Vision ads, not a nice place, horrible place to be in.”
The sister and brother met their godmother in 2007 on a visit to their birth country but in 2018, Zoe had a breakthrough when an uncle of hers who is a priest, came forward willing to share information about her biological mother and father.
Zoe has one daughter herself, Harper Rose, whom she shares with her MAFS ex Alex Garner.
“If your mother has passed on, know that her love envelopes you,” Zoe wrote in a heartfelt Mother’s Day post. “That she lives on in you and in the spirit of your children.”
“Seeing your child that your mother will never hold or know, delivers a deep searing pain. I’ve had that ache since Harper was born and I cried for my birth Mum. It pushed me to travel half way around the world in search of her. Only to be told I was too late.”
