Major news for Wentworth fans!

The Australian drama signs on for a sixth season.

Due to a cult-following, Wentworth will commence production of the sixth season according to Foxtel and FremantleMedia Australia.

The prison-themed drama series, which premiered in 2013, is distributed by FremantleMedia International and is now viewed in more than 140 territories and there are productions in Dutch, German and Flemish.

The show has garnered attention of industry elites by of prestigious awards including, the 6th AACTA Award for Most Outstanding Drama Series.

It was also nominated in the 59th TV WEEK Logie Awards in the popular voted Best Drama Series category and the industry voted categories of Most Outstanding Drama Series, Most Outstanding Supporting Actress for Nicole da Silva as Franky Doyle, and Most Outstanding Actress for Danielle Cormack in her final season as Bea Smith.

The sixth season will officially air in 2018.
