Currently playing a manny named Robert on series four of Mistresses, the 42-year-old actor told Us Weekly, “I’m not sure if given the chance to hire myself as a manny in my family, I don’t think I would allow that to happen.”

While O’Connell didn’t elaborate on the reasons why, he remained firm on his stance. “I’m sorry if that’s closed-minded of me. I just wouldn’t allow that — I wouldn’t be comfortable with that. I would explain to my wife and to my children that I was not comfortable with a manny around.”

The former law student is married to Victoria’s Secret veteran and actress Rebecca Romijn. The couple tied the knot in 2007 and have twin daughters, Dolly and Charlie, 7.

The role of a nanny is often a controversial choice for celebrity couples, as extra-martial involvement with the babysitter has been a cause for conflict in many long-term relationships.

Jude Law famously had an affair with his children’s primary minder, and nanny Christine Ouzounian was at the centre of cheating allegations surrounding the marriage breakdown of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner.
