WATCH: Margot’s new movie looks intense…

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the Australian star has revealed that she created a secret Twitter account to help her better understand the mind of her Bombshell character, Kayla Pospisil.

In the movie, Kayla is a bubbly young conservative employee at Fox News – and she’s wholeheartedly devoted to the right-wing media outlet, which was a tricky concept for Margot to get her head around.

“I didn’t grow up watching Fox News, and I didn’t grow up in the same place as [Kayla],” she told EW.

“I was struggling to understand that point of view for a while, and Twitter ended up being the most useful tool… Because people are extremely vocal on Twitter.”

So the acclaimed actress headed to the social media site, created a new profile, and went about following as many young right-wing women as she could find in the hopes of getting some insight into a mindset that was completely foreign to the Gold Coast-raised beauty.

The film is based on the true events that led to the downfall of Fox News’ CEO and Chairman Roger Ailes in 2016, following multiple sexual assault allegations.

Though some characters in the film are based on real-life female employees of the company – Charlize Theron stars as then-headliner Megyn Kelly, while former Fox & Friends co-host Gretchen Carlson is played by Nicole Kidman – Kayla is fictional.

Kayla is first introduced as a staunch supporter of her company and bosses, but this changes as. she finds herself subjected to sexual harassment. And her stories, which are based on the many anonymous accusations against the disgraced former Fox boss, are no less important than those of the well-known faces of the charge again Ailes.

“Kayla is an amalgamation of many women’s stories, and some of the specifics you see in scenes with her are taken from real-life interactions those women experienced,” Margot explained to EW.

The star’s work in the flick earned her a 2020 Golden Globes nomination for Best Actress in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture.

The homegrown star expressed her gratitude on Twitter, writing:

“It’s an honour to be nominated for a film that I’m so proud to be a part of @bombshellmovie. I’m so grateful to the HFPA [Hollywood Foreign Press Association].”

The Aussie actress also recently scored the honour of becoming the first ever double nominee in the Best Supporting Actress category at the AACTA International Awards.

Aside from the fact that more entries equals more chances to win (yay!), the double nom is testament to just how damn hard the Queensland-born 29-year-old has been working of late. Her AACTA nominations are for her roles in both Bombshell and Once Upon a Time In Hollywood, but we’ll have to wait until 2020 to see if she takes home the prize!
