We’re used to seeing Married At First Sight contestants cheat, lie, and throw each other under the bus. However, we weren’t prepared for the drama that’s ensued on this season of the dating experiment, with the toothbrush scandal now a major storyline.
In case you’ve been living under a rock and have no idea what I’m talking about here’s a recap: This year’s most hated groom, David Cannon, was so over of his TV wife, Hayley Vernon, that he decided to scrub their poo filled toilet with her toothbrush, only to put it back in the sink and go about his day. The brunette bodybuilder proceeded to use the toothbrush for exactly five days before she was warned about what he’d done.
“Natasha had sent me a text message saying not to use my toothbrush. She had the room next to me so I went over to her room and she goes ‘Hayley you can’t say anything, Mishel has told me and I wanted to tell you because it has something to do with your health and safety’,” she told Mamamia, explaining the chain of events that led up to her huge blow-up and subsequent split from David.

After the irate MAFS star “broke down, screamed and absolutely lost my sh*t”, she was ready to go to the police, however, Nine Network producers persuaded her to keep the scandal under wraps, hoping the drama would unfold on camera during the next boozy dinner party.
“That’s one of my biggest regrets. I got told not to go to the police, that production would deal with it. I really should have,” she told the outlet.

“When he went into there unsupervised, he wrecked my clothes, took some of the food on the bench and filmed the toothbrush incident. It is almost physically abusive. I’ve spoken to the police about this, it’s classified as a form of physical abuse. It can endanger your person and you can get Hepatitis A.
“It was such a high-pressure situation where everyone was feeling very stressed [however], someone going down the path of being physically abusive to someone else is just deplorable.”
Speaking on news.com.au’s podcast Not Here to Make Friends yesterday, Melbourne based truck driver David opened up about the disgusting and “childish” act— which was filmed on his iPhone and later leaked to the public.

“About three days after the cheating scandal happens, I’ve heard nothing from Hayley and I’m in a really dark place … I still had her room key, and that’s when I did something really childish,” David began.
“I knew she liked her equal in her coffee so I flogged that, I knew she liked clothes folded in a certain way, then while I was getting my toiletries out of the room, that’s when the whole toothbrush incident happens. She would go to the toilet without cleaning up after herself. I wasn’t a fan of the what she would leave on the toilet bowl, so that’s when I grabbed the toothbrush and scrubbed the toilet with it.”
To make matters even worse, he said he figured that literally eating her own poo could in no way, shape, or form have harmed her.
“She used it for five days. It’s her own poo, it’s her own bacteria in her own body so it’s not going to hurt her.”
MAFS’ Michael Goonan also weighed in on the scandal this morning, telling KIIS FM’s The Kyle And Jackie O Show that what Michael did was “sneaky” and unacceptable.

“I don’t condone that,” he said. “You will notice I have done everything to these contestants’ face, so what he did was very sneaky. He wanted to get even for some reason and I don’t know what happened behind closed doors but that was sneaky and not ok.”
