You know sh*t has well and truly hit the fan when Married At First Sight producers have no choice but to re-edit an entire episode thanks to one nightmarish dinner date that was too rogue to make it to air.
WATCH: Stacey and Michael scream at each other over drunken fight
New reports have surfaced claiming Nine Network executives were left scrambling when Michael Goonan sank one too many beers at dinner, flew off the handle and started badmouthing his wife Stacey Hampton in front of hundreds of guests.
“Stacey left him alone because he was drinking so much and she wanted an early night, and then he kept calling her a bimbo once she’d walked off,” said an onlooker who was trying to enjoy a meal at the hotel bar the couple was dining at.
“He was also telling everybody how rich he is, how expensive his watch is, and how he doesn’t need the show or Stacey.”
After the soon-to-be lawyer stormed out and went to bed, multiple patrons at the bar made complaints about Michael’s distasteful behaviour, eventually leading to him being kicked out.
“Someone that was with him, who I think was a producer, had to step in after a guy called him a muppet or something,” another eyewitness said.
Knowing what really happened behind the scenes makes it easier to comprehend why the mum-of-two saw red when she woke up next to her husband the next day. And while many viewers complained she took far too long to forgive him for a few inconsequential mistakes, it’s clear we didn’t see the half of it!
As more information about Michael’s past comes to light, he’s quickly earned himself the reputation of being this year’s “bad boy”. In fact, the quirky 28-year-old put his foot in his mouth just moments after making his reality TV debut when he made a derogatory comment.
“We’ve all been with a good-looking girl and listened to her, and been like, ‘Ugh! Turn that thing on silent.’ You know what I mean? We have, you have… you get me, like,” he said before digging that hole even deeper!
To be fair, Stacey has also copped her fair share of hate since appearing on our screens, however, blames Nine Network for intentionally editing scenes in an attempt to portray her in a negative light.
According to Stacey, she did, in fact, show interest in getting to know Michael long before she discovered he was the director of his family’s successful business. The mum-of-two even suggested someone on set gave her bridesmaid a phone in the hope of creating the most dramatic narrative possible.
“They weren’t showing a lot of bits,” she said this morning while appearing on Nova’s Fitzy and Wippa.
“The phone thing… No one in reception had a phone so I felt it very bizarre my friend just happened to have one,” Stacey said, implying some shady business was going on behind the scenes. “That was very weird.”
