As the first episodes of Married At First Sight Australia premiered, we had the honour of being distinguished guests at multiple TV weddings. Well, we watched it all happen from the comfort of our homes, wearing pyjamas and drinking red wine as we saw hopeful brides and grooms meeting at the altar for the very first time. Same same.

WATCH: Married At First Sight Australia 2022 | First Look

You can learn a lot about how a couple’s on-screen romance will play out as you watch their wedding ceremony and reception unfold.

Sometimes the violins play and it signifies the beginning of a lasting love story (hello, Jules Robinson and Cameron Merchant). Sometimes there are awkward silences and snide remarks signifying a chaotic relationship downfall (looking at you, Ines Basic and Bronson Norrish).

In the first few episodes we met the contestants of the ninth season, with a bunch of low-key romantics and high-maintenance folks in the mix. We also got to see them tie the knot, with some beautiful ceremonies making us swoon and others making us swear off dating for good.

Tamara & Brent

Two people who describe themselves as Alphas. What could go wrong?

From the get-go it was clear that Tamara, a 29-year-old operations manager from Queensland, and Brent, a 33-year-old influencer and events manager, were going to butt heads.

Whether she was telling him how to use the correct fork at dinner, or he was aghast by her (perfectly normal) feet, the couple clashed immediately. And we weren’t the only ones who thought so.

Tamara’s Maid of Honour and Brent’s Best Man were visibly uncomfortable for 99% of the event and took to having side-bars about their friends’ unfortunate pairing. We’d like to see them commentate the relationship in a new sports-style spin-off show for the rest of the season, please.

Selin & Anthony

On the other end of the spectrum were Selin and Anthony. Could this duo be the next great MAFS success story? We’re off to a promising start.

A 32-year-old model and executive assistant, Selin was hoping to find someone who could be a great partner and role model for her son Roman. She met her match in “gentleman” and single dad Anthony, a 38-year-old single father.

“I must have died and gone to heaven,” Anthony said upon seeing his bride. “I can’t take my eyes off her.”

Even their family members were getting along like a house on fire at the wedding reception, with the group enjoying laughs, dancing and cake-eating into the night. Despite this, it doesn’t seem like they’re faring so well after all.

Domenica & Jack

Dogs! Vegetarianism! Being Italian! These two had everything in common, and it was clear their was a connection when they couldn’t stop chit-chatting at the altar.

“I’m definitely feeling the chemistry. I just wanted someone who had a really kind smile and beautiful energy,” Domenica, 27, told the cameras of meeting her groom.

“I think the experts have nailed it. Dom is beautiful, she’s lovely, and she seems totally unique,” added Jack, 26.

Ella & Mitch

While Domenica and Jack were all about connection, Ella Ding and Mitch Eynaud were all about that chemistry. The pair were clearly into each other and even shared a lengthy smooch during their wedding photoshoot.

“[The experts] definitely hit the nail on the head with things I asked for,” Ella said upon meeting Mitch, while he added: “Likewise. Likewise.”

Clearly obsessed with each other, the 27-year-old bride and 26-year-old groom have been going well so far!

Holly & Andrew

He was a Texan, she was really worried about him being a Texan. Can we make it any more obvious?

Holly Greenstein was QUITE worried about her groom being a gun-toting, Trump-supporting Texan, but Andrew Davis was able to show himself to be more aligned with her values and the pair ended up enjoying the rest of their wedding reception. But that was probably the last time they had any fun.

In the end, they became the first couple to leave the experiment

Cody & Selina

On paper, Cody Bromley and Selina Chhaur seemed like a good match. But when they met at the altar there was a clear disconnect between her bubbly, overexcited chatter and his more “chilled out” vibe.

For some reason, he was thrown off when she asked him the kinds of serious questions you would ask your husband. But at the very least he said the vibe was there! Things looked promising.

Until, on their honeymoon, Cody told Selina he didn’t find her sexually attractive – a moment that sparked internet outrage. Here’s hoping things improve (or at the very least, end civilly) from here!

Samantha & Al

Some viewers were left thinking this duo might have been a mismatch, when fun-loving (and somewhat immature) Al Perkins was paired with Samantha Moitzi, who was looking for a true life partner.

It was an instant attraction for Al when he saw his bride at the altar, but after his antics at their reception Sam isn’t so sure. We’ve got our fingers crossed these two can sort it out – and based on the latest episodes, it seems like they just might! Read more here.

Olivia & Jackson

For every Sam and Al, we hope to have an Olivia and Jackson! The experts seem to have gotten it right with these two, who were gushing about one another from the moment they met.

Despite 26-year-old Olivia’s mum going pretty hard on the questions, Jackson, 30, seemed excited to take on the experiment with her. And we’ve got some pretty major clues they’ve gone the distance.

Kate & Matt

A wedding and a snack-themed viral moment? We love to see it. Kate Laidlaw, 38, and Matt Ridley, 39, got off to a somewhat awkward start on MAFS, with the bride revealing she wasn’t feeling an instant connection to her groom.

He didn’t help the matter when he apologised for having “Chicken Twisties breath” during their photoshoot, but he was trying his best okay!!! While there were no immediate fireworks, we think these two might be able to go the distance if Kate can come out of her shell a little.

Dion & Carolina

Carolina Santos showed up three hours later to her wedding, though her groom, Dion Giannarelli, brushed the tardiness aside. He was excited to see her walking down the aisle and told producers he was happy with the match.

Carolina herself admitted she could be a bit of “diva” sometimes and was impressed by how “patient” Dion was being her. Whether or not they couple, both 33, prove to be a good match and stay together remains to be seen, but you can check out all the latest details here.

Jessica & Daniel

These two appeared to be a “perfect match” on paper, with the experts claiming to be excited about seeing them together. While the ceremony itself went off without many hitches, things got awkward at the reception when 27-year-old Jessica mentioned what she would do differently for her “real wedding” and 30-year-old Daniel walked away.

“She said, ‘I can’t wait for my real wedding, I’m definitely not going to dress like this again’,” he said to a producer. “Why would you say that? What is this then? Is it fake?

“I’m not going to pretend with her if I know that she doesn’t think it’s serious. I just don’t know if she’s genuine.”

When Jess explained herself to Daniel, he seemed to calm down a bit.

“I think you should ask me first. Why freak out and leave and not speak to me and ask me what I meant?” she told him.

Have they made it through the rough patch? Here’s everything we know.

Married At First Sight Australia airs Monday to Wednesday, 7:30pm, and Sunday, 7pm on Nine Network and 9 Now.
