While other couples have been fighting about shock drug use allegations and a lack of intimacy, Connie Crayden has been ripping into Jonethen Musulin for aimlessly scrolling through Instagram.

EXCLUSIVE: Jessika Power’s RUTHLESS reaction to second MAFS dinner party

Now, after raging at her TV husband for breaking his “no phone” rule, the Married At First Sight groom has revealed the real and extremely sad reason why he was checking the device so often.

“When that whole thing happened, my dad just had a stroke,” Jonethen told Hit Mid North Coast’s Krysti and Bodge. “A lot of the so-called “Instagramming” was just me contacting my brothers, contacting my mum. Being more involved in that.”

Unfortunately, he failed to tell Connie about the unfortunate situation, leading her to believe he was instead disinterested in spending quality time with her.

“And you can see, I’m kind of upset most days. I look reasonably rattled at my phone if you look back at the footage. It’s mainly because I’m talking about some pretty heavy stuff. I wasn’t really conveying [my situation] to Connie. I wasn’t really telling her what I was doing. She was just seeing me on my phone.”

Thankfully, he understands why producers decided to edit this out.

“They’ve got ten couples and an hour [of airtime] and they have to develop so many other stories with so many other characters,” he said, admitting he understands why MAFS producers edited this out.

Connie and Jonethen were at war when the phonegate saga continued on Tuesday night’s episode. And after breaking her ‘no phone’ rule, their relationship took a turn for the worse when she decided to swap the marital bed for the couch.

“He’s not taking the phone rule seriously,” she said to the camera, visibly saddened. “He thinks it’s a joke. He’s just dropped his most recent selfie, then he’s just checking his likes.”

Connie went on to explain that the light from his phone was shining in her face while she was trying to sleep.

“Next time I’ll just keep all my concentration on you,” he said. “That’s okay. You can be the focal point of everything. We’re in a relationship, it’s not a dictatorship,” he added.

Connie took exception to the word ‘dictatorship’. Rising from the couch she said, “A dictatorship? Is that what you think this is?”

“I understand it’s a silly rule. But because it’s silly it should be easy,” she told the camera. “If he can’t take that seriously, how’s he going to take me seriously?”
