And while fans of the unconventional dating series have praised Nine Network for their decision to include both gay and straight couples in this year’s experiment, unfortunately, Amanda’s desire to tie the knot with another woman in front of the cameras has completely disrupted her family dynamic.
TV Week recently reported that since filming wrapped, the strength, physique and mindset coach is no longer in contact with her loved ones, and considers herself estranged from her father in particular.
According to the publication, Amanda’s dad urged his daughter to strongly reconsider signing onto the show amid mounting fears he could lose his job. Despite trying to reason with him and talk through their issues, her dad was so resistant, Amanda had no choice but to cut ties with him completely.
Since then, Amanda has confirmed these allegations with WHO, telling us: “These facts are all on point. I don’t want to comment further on what happened with my family, they’re a thing of the past and I wish to keep them there.”
While she remains tight-lipped about the inner workings of their dynamic, it’s clear she’s devastated by what has transpired. We see a glimpse of her sadness on tonight’s episode when she is reduced to tears while telling Australia that her dad would not be attending her wedding to Tash Herz. While his absence caused great pain for Amanda and her mother, she was smitten when she met her bride and eventually said “I do”.
Amanda has been open and honest about her past since day dot, even revealing in a preview clip that she cheated on her ex-partner— however she puts the blame on her ex because she “wouldn’t let her go”.
“I cheated on my ex-[girlfriend] but I can vouch firsthand that I tried to walk away from the relationship several times but she wouldn’t let me go,” Amanda explained.
“I obviously made that poor decision to cheat on her [and] it hurt her obviously in the process but I understand what its like to be on the other end of it,” she continued.
She added: “I understand that good people make bad choices every now and then.”
“Two people play a part in a relationship so it’s like what have you not done to have let that partner stray.”
