Married At First Sight viewers were baffled when Michael Goonan kept his composure after learning his wife Stacey Hampton had slept with his once close friend, Mikey Pembroke.

And while many thought he was going to side with the law graduate after already successfully overcoming one cheating scandal, he’s since revealed he believes Mikey over the woman he fell in love with.
“She did it, mate. There’s a full lie detector test,” the party boy said during an interview with Nova’s Fitzy and Wippa. “I can forgive someone that’s telling me the truth and I can have their back to the bitter end. But what I can’t do is have is someone sit there and blatantly lie straight to my face.”
During the chat, the single dad also explained why he was strangely calm when confronted with news of his wife’s affair, saying he needed to hear both sides of the story before forming his final opinion.
“Look when you’ve been confronted with a story like that, the first thing you have to do is make sure your story is in line. If there’s any gaps or holes, you’re a liar. So you see me quite clearly say ‘Is there any text messages?’
“She said, ‘No, no, no, there’s no text messages’. Then the phone comes out full of text messages. I can help you in a sinking canoe but I can’t just keep shovelling buckets of water out for you, I’m sorry you’ve gone down on this one.”
So what happened after the dinner party wrapped and the cameras stopped rolling? Michael told Nova 100’s Chrissie, Sam & Browny that he tried to chat with Stacey about these damaging allegations, however, she’d dug a hole too deep to claw her way out of.
“She continued to tell me it never happened. I said there was too much doubt for me to continue in this catastrophe so let’s just have a hug and I’ll see you later,” he said. “But she said she didn’t want to hug me… At the end of the day, I should be the one sort of stamping my feet and saying that I’m the victim.”
Although Stacey maintains Mikey created this scandal in an attempt to grab headlines, he recently took a polygraph test. And according to Yahoo, he was officially cleared of lying by the highly trained operator, scoring far above the standard number for truthful answers.
“I, Michael Pembroke do hereby declare that while at the Sky Suites apartments I had sexual intercourse with Stacey Hampton,” he wrote in a declaration before undergoing the examination.
After four hours of rigorous questioning, the polygraph expert said: “It is my opinion that you are in fact being truthful to that issue. There was no strong emotional responses indicative of deception to the declaration.”
Mikey scored an average of 10 on each answer— a truthful answer should be three or more meaning he more than tripled the required criteria.
After Mikey posted these results on his Instagram story, in a last-ditch effort to prove him wrong, Stacey accused the groom of skewing the results, claiming his “lie detector test was done by his dad’s friend in the police force.”
She also slammed Nine Network for the way they edited the dinner party, sharing a message on her Instagram story that read: “Channel 9: Your evidence is nonsense. For the “experts” that sit there and say there is compelling evidence makes me question the entire series. Thank you though, Michael is now out of my life. Blessing in disguise.”
