On tonight’s episode of Married at First Sight, Mike delivered a speech at the Final Vows that took Heidi — and the rest of Australia— by surprise. Standing in front of his wife who was visibly nervous, Mike looked surprisingly calm considering the savage words that were about to come out of his mouth.
“In spite of our initial chemistry, we were often dysfunctional. There were criticisms of one another’s character. We showed inconsideration and there was a lack of trust that arose earlier on. I wanted to be the best person I could be for you, but I struggled to make you happy,” he began, detailing every time the pair had fought or argued in the past three months. “You told the experts that I was inconsiderate. You told me you did trust me, and that was a difficult moment for me. Telling a person you don’t trust them is the final blow and very few relationships survive that.I have been conflicted with this decision. Our relationship shouldn’t be this hard.”
After describing their inability to see eye to eye on important issues, Mike didn’t end things with Heidi. Instead, he went on to say three words we never thought we’d hear come out of his mouth… I love you!
“We never gave up. What existed between us was special. We had a connection so strong, it was able to sustain all we were subjected to. Heidi, forgive me for the moments I nearly lost hope. My heart is full again. You make me a proud husband,” he began.
“Despite the ups and downs and how hard it truly has been, I can’t walk away. I need to be with you. Now I know what this feeling in my heart is… It’s love. Heidi, I love you.”
Taken aback, Heidi burst into tears before double checking her husband wasn’t pulling her leg!
“Oh, my god. Are you sure you love me?” she asked. “Yes,” Mike responded before kissing her passionately.
While Jules and Cam have been dropping the L-Bomb since their third date, it’s a pretty big deal for those words to come out of Mike’s mouth. If you cast your mind back to a few weeks ago, you might recall Mike telling Heidi that he would “try and see” if he could fall in love with her, however, admitted it probably wouldn’t happen while they were filming.
While many fans were outraged with his flippant comment, on tonight’s episode Mike revealed that he’s never been in love let alone told a significant other that he loves them… So yeah, it’s a pretty bold move.
