Friends creator Marta Kauffman has settled the will they or won’t they reunite debate once and for all.
“A show has a lifespan I believe, it has a lifespan like anything else, and there’s no reason to continue doing it just because people miss the characters,” Kaufmann, 59 told deadline. “Watch the old ones, there is no way we could win that.”
In an interview for her new show Grace and Frankie staring Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda, the iconic television producer was definitive when it came to any chances the cast would rekindle the magic.
“There’s no way it would be satisfying and it’ll never happen. We’ll never do it.”
The Emmy award-winning show ran from 1994-2004 and made household names of the cast Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer.
“Friends was a show about that time in your life when your friends are your family,” says Kauffman.
Even in it’s decade long syndication, Friends still remains one of the most popular sitcoms of all time.
Calls for a cast reunion have long been made by fans, since the final episode aired on May 6, 2004.
Five of the original gang reunited for a tribute to longstanding television director James Burrows that aired on February 21, 2016. Perry, 46 was in London working on his play, The End of Longing.
The once close-knit cast still retain many personal friendships that bonded from the set. Jennifer Aniston is a godmother to Courteney Cox’s daughter Coco Arquette and Matt LeBlanc recently visited Matthew Perry’s London play between filming for motoring show Top Gear.
