The countdown is on for this season of MasterChef Australia, and, while the show has been beloved for years, judge Andy Allen believes on major change is only going to increase it’s popularity even more this time round. He’ll be be returning to the show alongside fellow judges Poh Ling Yeow, Sofia Levin, and Jean-Christophe Novelli as 40 new hopefuls take to the kitchen with hopes of entering MasterChef hall of fame.
And, while Meghan Markle’s appearance has been creating buzz this week ahead of the premiere tonight (Sunday, April 19), Andy told WHO there are many more exciting guest appearances to come.

The ‘massive gamble’ that paid off for MasterChef last year
The show is no stranger to celeb cameos, with Robert Irwin and Jimmy Barnes also confirmed for this season.
However, the producers have gone slightly off the beaten track with who they’ve invited along this year, and if last year is anything to go by, we’re in for a treat.
“Last year, we had Sooshi Mango come on, and it was a massive gamble for us because, at that time, they didn’t have their sandwich shop and they weren’t kind of known for loving food,” Andy told WHO, speaking of the comedy trio who have since become known for their food content.
“It was a bit of ‘people are just going to see through this and not know why they were there, and just take the piss out of it’, and it was our highest rating show of the whole season. And we have now lent into that — and without giving too much away, there will be guests that, you know, are found on social media, and yes, they obviously have a great relationship with food, and that’s their thing.”
He explained that having content creators on the show is just as exciting as having renowned chefs, and fans love both.
“It’s not just your three Michelin star chefs that come in to create a, you know, six-hour pressure test. Yes, there’s still, you know, those amazing Australian chefs that come in and really test out our contestants. But we’ve kind of lent in to like this kind of undeniable thing that is social media, which is where a lot of people view their content, especially food content these days,” he said.
“It’s same, same but beautifully different. You know, going back to fresh faces and newbies, and after having a year of returning contestants last year, that has been amazing – it’s what MasterChef is all about, in my opinion.”
