The Bostonians met as primary school kids when they were neighbours and bonded over their love of the Boston Red Sox. They hit the bigtime when their screenplay Good Will Hunting earned the buddies an Oscar in 1997, and they’ve been two of Hollywood’s biggest stars ever since.

Addressing the crowd at the awards, Affleck, 43, joked, “I think it goes without saying that this is an award Matt and I have been dreaming about since we were little boys.”

Damon, 45, has often been considered the sidekick to Affleck’s leading man, even having to rebuff rumors that he would play Robin to Affleck’s Batman in the recent Batman vs. Superman comic film.

The funny men didn’t miss the chance to crack a joke at the expense of Damon’s Oceans Eleven co-stars Brad Pitt and George Clooney.

Ribbed Damon, “We will cherish this, and we want to recognize some of the other nominees.  Some of the dudes who weren’t quite as decade-worthy: George Clooney and Brad Pitt.”
