On the latest episode of ABC’s Anh’s Brush With Fame, one of Australia’s most successful supermodels, Megan Gale, opens up about her relationship with partner Shaun Hampson, their son River, and the tragic death of her father.

Gale, 41, began dating AFL player Hampson, 29, not long after her four-year relationship with comedian Andy Lee ended.

“I was very aware of the fact that a lot would be made of not just how quickly I happened to move on, but the age difference,” she said of their 12 year age gap. “And I knew, I knew people would eat that up and make it a negative.”

The Australia’s Next Top Model host hated that she was labelled as a cougar, but is happy she proved people wrong, now parents to son River, two, and currently expecting their second child.

Gale teared up when speaking of River’s birth, and his resemblance to her late father. “I just looked at him and he looked exactly how I thought he would. He was so beautiful, he was the most beautiful little thing.

“He does have dad’s eyes, and because he’s not here anymore it’s so cool, it’s so cool to see my dad’s expression every now and then.”

When Gale was 10 weeks pregnant with River, she found out her father was diagnosed with asbestos related lung cancer. He died in August 2014, three months after River was born.

“A week before River was due, he got it together enough to fly from Perth to Melbourne and I’m so glad he did, because River was born a day later.”

She also opened up about her final moments with her father.

“I wrote him a letter, it was about five pages long,” she revealed. “It was just a mix of memories and thoughts and feelings I had about him. And some stuff I’d never said, because you always think you’re going to have forever with your parents.

The model then went into more detail.

“I got home and he was so weak and I just saw him in bed, and I just went up behind him and gave him a hug and I started crying.

“He just said, ‘That’s OK, my lovely.’ He said, ‘You can cry, but, um… but not too much. Please don’t.’ And I said, ‘OK. I promise I won’t.”

The star then decided to make a playlist with songs from one of her father’s favourite singers, Rod Stewart, revealing her father died four songs in.
