Expectations were high for guests at Della and Tully’s Instant Restaurant, but none higher than Josh’s expectations — for just Della.
“I don’t feel like Tully’s a threat at all,” the Broome deckhand said at the table. “I feel like Della is the actual threat because she knows a lot about food.” In an aside, he added, “Della’s really impressed me with her food knowledge but Tully is just her assistant.”
Yet Della and Tully tell WHO they were both rattled by unevenly cooked quail and initially raw duck and worked together to bring calm to the kitchen.
“One mistake happened and then it was another,” Della says, “It was the protein again and again. I keep watching the show as I was making it. It was a real problem — I couldn’t get out of my head.”
Tully adds, “We just unraveled. We were going along really well and I think it was just the quail. The pink on the quail just tipped us over and we just unraveled from there.”
More frustrating for Della was the fact that “it was just dumb,” she says, “and we’re not that sort of women, either.” Concludes Tully, “We were a bit silly, yeah.”
At one point, Della says, “I was getting cranky because I was like, ‘Why don’t we just put on one of our beautiful meats and salads? I knew we were making mistakes, which was really frustrating for me.”
Regardless what score they received, Della and Tully knew they would here it from Josh and Amy, who scored low at their Instant Restaurant, at the next dinner. After all, Josh once said he was intimidated by Della but not by Tully.
“That was Josh intimidating us, I think,” Della says. “I think he tried to pick on a weakness, and it’s not a true one, so I think I got a bit heated up about that because he has no basis for that.”
Tully says, “It doesn’t really upset me. I’ve been called worse things. I’m a nurse and I’ve had all sorts of abuse hurled at me, so what Josh says is totally OK.”
That theory will be tested tonight at Alyse and Matt’s Instant Restaurant on My Kitchen Rules at 7.30 PM on Channel 7.
