The critically acclaimed series has been renewed for the 11th season, however, it will serve as the show’s final one.

ABC’s Entertainment President, Karey Burke announced the news at the 2019 Television Critics Association winter press tour.

“So proud to announce that Modern Family is returning for its 11th and final season,” Burke said. “In its final season, there will be more milestone events that anyone who has been a fan of the series won’t want to miss.”

While we don’t know what the upcoming season will entail, Deadline reported that it could consist of 18 to 22 episodes. The outlet also reported that the show’s adult stars—Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Ed O’Neill, Eric Stonestreet and Sofia Vergara— were all on board for the final run, and were aware the show was coming to an end.

Since the news broke, some cast members have taken to social media to share their thoughts.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson— who stars as Mitch in the award-winning series—took to Twitter to share the news alongside a picture of the cast. He also shared a message on Instagram.
